Walking:Shetland truly is the place to enjoy spectacular scenery, amazing clifftop walks, peace and tranquillity, and there is no better way to see it than to leave the car and get out for a walk. There are many historical sites and places of interest to see as well as some amazing wildlife. Have a look at the Visit Shetland walking page and download the leaflet for further information. Birdwatching:Shetland is quite simply a birdwatchers paradise with several RSPB reserves across the islands, whether you are interested in seeing the puffins on Sumburgh Head, visiting the Island of Noss with its dramatic cliffs, or perhaps you wish to visit Hermaness on the Island of Unst. You can also take the ferry to the Island of Mousa in late evening and watch (and listen!) to the Storm Petrels. The Island of Fetlar holds a nationally important population of breeding Red-Necked Phalaropes, other species include Red-Throated Divers, Snipe, Curlews, Redshanks, Lapwings and Teals. The hide at Mires of Funzie in Fetlar overlooks the Red-Necked Phalarope breeding site. Take a look at the following list of birds sighted close to Nilmurhaa: Great Northern Divers, Ringed Plovers, Oyster Catchers, Curlews, Puffins, Black Throated Divers, Redshank, Snipe, Arctic Terns, Arctic Skuas, Great Skuas, Eider Duck, Red Breasted Merganser, Mistle Thrush, Little Owl, Slavonian Grebe, Black Headed Gull, Fulmars, Gannet, Guillemot, Wheatear, Kittiwake, Common Gull, Herring Gull, Great Black Backed Gull, Shag, Lapwings, Great Crested Grebe, Grey heron, Whooper Swan, Mute Swan, Wren, Blackbird, House Sparrow and Tree Sparrow. Bring your binoculars and let us welcome you soon! Fishing:Try fishing in some of the most unspoilt waters in the UK! With over 300 lochs to choose from, Shetland is the ideal place for fishing, whether spinning or fly fishing, there is an abundance of places to go, from some of the best wild Brown Trout fishing and plenty of Sea Trout to go for. Trout fishing is easily accessible in Benston loch, just a few miles from Nilmurhaa. While in the South Mainland, just under an hours drive away, you can enjoy some of the best brown trout fishing in the islands. Sea Angling is also well catered for with local angling trips, you can even charter a sea angling boat for the day.
